Proud parents are celebrating the birth of their healthy son after losing their six-hour-old daughter to a rare heart condition. Mark and Claire Loyd of Norton Road, Chelmsford, now have a healthy two –month-old baby called Kian. They lost their daughter Moly to Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome suffered by only 200 babies in the UK a year. They managed to pull through the tragedy with the help of hundreds of messages of support posted to them from around the world on a website dedicated to their daughter.
Mr Loyd said: “It certainly helped us. It makes us aware that there are other people in the world with children with this heart condition. And with their support and the support we gave we were able to let each other know we are not alone.” The 35-year-old mechanic for Chelmsford’s Nationwide auto-centres said: “Now we’re really, really happy.”
But their “Hearts Of Hope” web-site will ensure Molly will never be forgotten and will serve to help parents in the future struggling to come to terms with the tragedy caused by the rare heart condition. The home page has a picture of Molly and a moving poem entitled A Letter From Heaven. The site was set up for the Loyds by a woman from Australia, who heard about their loss and wanted to bring them into the “circle of worldwide support” the technology of the internet can provide.
They have since received nearly 400 messages of support. Mr Loyd said: “We lost our girl. She was six-hours-old. But now we have got our little boy and he’s in perfect health.”
